Migrant Falls to Her Death at Border Wall

The Border Patrol says a woman fell to her death Friday afternoon after climbing over the U.S.—Mexico Border fence.

San Diego police say the woman fell from the wall near Drucker Lane and Siempre Viva Road. Her fall took place west of the Tijuana International Airport and near the U.S. Customs and Border Protection's Otay Mesa Port of Entry.

Her identity was not released and there is no information about whether she was alone or with anyone else.

A Tijuana migrant shelter worker told NBC7 that incidents like this are examples of desperation felt by migrants, many of whom trekked for days or even weeks to make it to the U.S. border.

According to a report by U-C San Diego, there have been at least sixteen falling deaths and more than 400 injury incidents at the border in San Diego since 2019.

This past week, hundreds of migrants arrived at the border area to attempt to seek asylum in the U.S. It is the biggest group of migrants arriving at the border since the end of Title 42 in May of this year.
