HISTORIC FIRST: Tropical Storm Warning issued for ALL of SoCal

A Tropical Storm Warning was issued by the National Weather Service Friday night for all of the communities in Southern California for the first time ever.

By 8 p.m Friday, the National Weather Service (NWS) placed all of Southern California communities, including San Diego County, Riverside County, San Bernardino County, Los Angeles County and parts of Ventura County under the warning.

The NWS added the warning extended to Orange County Coastal Areas, Orange County Inland Areas and the Santa Ana Mountains and Foothills.

A Tropical Storm Watch was issued for the San Diego area midday Friday, but it was upgraded to a Tropical Storm Warning Friday night because winds of 39 - 73 mph are expected across Southern California within 36 hours as Hurricane Hilary moves north.

The San Diego coast averages annual rainfall totals of roughly 10 inches. Hurricane Hilary has the potential to bring a full year's worth of rainfall within just a couple of days. That has forecasters warning of possible historic flooding.
