San Diego Police Shoot Man After He Kills K-9

San Diego Police officers shot and killed a man early Wednesday morning near Mesa College during which a police dog was killed.

Police say they got a call around 1:30 a.m. about someone firing a gun, possibly from one car to another near Mesa College in Clairemont. Officers located a car and stopped the suspect near Mesa College Circle, but the man was not compliant.

The man was reported to have a gun under his arm. Police used a K-9 to take down the man but the man shot and killed the dog. That's when officers shot at the man. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Under countywide protocol for police shootings, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department is investigating the shooting.
