Wrong Way Driver Facing DUI and Manslaughter Charges

A San Diego man accused of driving drunk in the wrong direction on the 805 freeway near the border and killing an innocent motorist is facing DUI and vehicular manslaughter charges.

The CHP says Fernando Ggoneortiz, who's 29, is hospitalized with injuries he suffered when his sedan slammed into a minivan Wednesday just before noon. He is expected to survive.

A CHP spokesman says he was driving northbound in the southbound lanes of the 805 near Camina de la Plaza when he collided with the minivan, killing the driver. His name was being withheld pending notification of family members.

The crash closed a portion of the freeway as a SIG alert was issued.
