The National Weather Service has widened the areas if the county that are under an Excessive Heat Warning and it has been extended until Tuesday, July 18, till 8 p.m.
The temperatures in the inland valleys and mountains are going to be in the mid to upper 90s and near 120 in the deserts. At the coast, the daytime highs will be in the upper 70s and low 80s.
Officials say the extremely high temperatures combined with the increased vegetation from the record rainfall last winter having dried out increases the risk of wildfires. Cal Fire is fully staffed in San Diego County with ground and air resources.

for the inland valleys expected.

* IMPACTS...Extreme heat will significantly increase the
potential for heat related illnesses, particularly for those
working or participating in outdoor activities.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The peak of the heat is expected over the
weekend with hottest daytime temperatures for the inland valleys.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out
of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young
children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles
under any circumstances.
Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when
possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational
Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent
rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone
overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.
