FAA Lifts Ground Stop Order After Nationwide Computer Outage

All air traffic operations were slowly resuming at San Diego International and at airports across the United States Wednesday morning.

The Federal Aviation Administration said an overnight computer outage led to an order to ground flights and there were thousands of cancellations nationwide in the overnight hours.

At least 4,300 flights within, to and out of the U.S. were delayed as of around 6:05 a.m. PT Wednesday, according to the online Flight Tracker website. Dozens of flights at San Diego International were affected.

The FAA issued a statement saying its "Notice to Air Missions" (NOTAM) system, which contains information essential to workers involved in flight operation, had "failed. (SEE BELOW)

A statement from the White House said there was no evidence the outage was the result of a cyberattack, although President Joe Biden had instructed the Department of Transportation to do a "full investigation" into the cause.
