President Biden Visits San Diego in Support of Democratic Rep. Mike Levin

President Biden arrived on Air Force One at MCAS Miramar Thursday evening more than an hour after his scheduled time.

Biden was greeted on the tarmac at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar by Gov. Gavin Newsom, Mayor Todd Gloria and Democratic Reps. Mike Levin and Scott Peters.

The president motorcaded to Oceanside to speak at a campaign rally for Rep. Mike Levin who is in a tight race in the 49th congressional district. In Oceanside, supporters and protesters arrived in force for the rally at MiraCosta College with many college students in attendance.

“This guy delivers,” Biden told more than 1,000 people inside a gym at the college in Oceanside, echoing one of Levin’s campaign mottoes. “And he’s fighting to protect democracy.”

The rally was part of a four-state, three-day campaign swing to help Democrats in the most competitive races in California, New Mexico and Illinois and in battleground Pennsylvania, where Biden was born and raised.

A poll released this week showed Rep. Levin leading Republican challenger Brian Maryott 49 percent to 43 percent among likely voters,.The nonpartisan Cook Political Report last week switched its rating of the 49th congressional district from “lean Democratic” to “tossup.”
