San Diego County officials announced a shortage of vaccine caused by the delayed arrival of an expected Moderna shipment.
The largest of the County's vaccination super stations was being closed Sunday. Monday and Tuesday and vaccinations sites county-wide were expected to slow and, in some cases, pause with appointments rescheduled. The delayed shipment of Moderna vaccine doses was expected to arrive on Tuesday (2/16). The county says second doses will remain the priority for vaccination sites.
Appointments for the vaccination site next to Petco Park were beingautomatically rescheduled through UCSD MyChart. The county said the South County Super Station had supplies sufficient to get it through Monday as does the East County Super Station. The County smaller sites, called Points of Dispensing, or PODs, and the North County Super Station in San Marcos have sufficient supplies to meet second dose appointments along with a limited supply of first doses.
For those who may experience a delay in second doses, the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention has advised that people can wait up to 42 days between doses and still achieve maximum immunity.
