Why the More Connected Are Feeling More Disconnected

A new study on loneliness is getting a lot of attention and might be resonating with more people than you think.

The study surveyed more than 10,000 adults and it found that three out of every five working Americans say they feel left out, poorly understood and lack companionship.

And the report says loneliness appears be on the rise with a 7-percent increase in the number of people who say they are lonely than did when the last survey was done in 2018.

The report on the study says loneliness is strongly linked to mental health issues such as anxiety and depression.

A professor who studies relationships and health saying the evidence shows that the “kinds of bonds you have with people, how close you are, how connected you feel to others impact physical health.”

So why do more people say they are lonely?

Not necessarily surprising, the study says the use and time spent on social media is tied to loneliness, with 72% of very heavy social media users considered lonely, as compared with 51% of light social media users.

This new study echoes what we’ve been hearing more and more, that despite living at a time when we are more connected than ever, more of us are feeling more disconnected. So...it might be a good idea to share this study on social media.
