Officer Involved Shooting Leaves Suspect Dead in San Ysidro

A man firing off an assault rifle at a San Ysidro mobile home park was fatally shot by police this afternoon, authorities said.

Patrol officers responding to a report of gunfire in the 100 block of West Calle Primera opened fire on the man shortly before 2 p.m., according to San Diego police. The man, armed with what appeared to be an AK-47, died at the scene of the shooting. His name was not immediately released.

No other injuries were reported, though a residence at the small trailer park near the southern junction of Interstate 5 and I-805 reportedly was struck by bullets.

The gunfire prompted a brief lockdown at nearby Willow Elementary School, police said.
