Complaint Filed In Name of Border Agent Working Local Border Over No Pay

A U.S. Border Patrol agent stationed at San Ysidro and Otay Mesa is named in a complaint filed against the federal government over the ongoing partial government shutdown.

Albert Vieira is represented by the National Treasury Employees Union.

The complaint was filed on behalf of Vieira and the thousands of other federal employees who have not been paid since the shutdown but have been required to work because they're considered "excepted" employees.

The partial shutdown has been in effect since December December 22nd when President Trump and Democratic leaders found themselves at an impasse over funding of a border wall between the U.S. and Mexico.

The complaint alleges that the lack of payment for works violates the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Vieira, who normally works out of Oakland, was temporarily assigned to work in Otay Mesa and San Ysidro in November.
