New Flu Drug Approved After Deadliest Flu Season

The FDA has approved a fast-acting, single-dose oral flu medication after the deadliest season in 40 years.

Last season, more than 80,000 people died from the flu, and 900 thousand were hospitalized.

Last year in San Diego County, 342 people died and nearly 21 thousand cases were reported.

The new flu medication, for people 12 and older, has been shown to significantly reduce the duration of symptoms.

It's the first new flu medicine approved in 20 years.
