On Wednesday October 3rd FEMA will test the National Wireless Emergency Alert System for the first time.
All modern cell phones in the country will receive the test at 11:18 AM Pacific Time.
The County says in a real situation, the system would be used to warn the public about dangerous weather, missing children, or another critical situation that may require you to evacuate or remain in place.
The message will have the heading "Presidential Alert", which means the message does not require users to "opt-in".
Following the wireless test, FEMA will also run a test of the Emergency Alert System on radio and television.
