West Fire
A County Assistance Center was set up at the Alpine Library where residents who lost homes in the fire or whose homes and property were damaged could get questions answered and helped with applying for aid and recovery.
Cal Fire announced Sunday that 34 homes were destroyed and 15 were damaged in the West Fire in Alpine. One commercial building also was destroyed.
The fire, that started shortly after 11 a.m. Friday near I-8 and Willows Road, burned just over 500 acres. One firefighter suffered a minor burn injury. As of Tuesday morning, it was nearly 100% contained.
Authorities had lifted all evacuation orders as of Sunday at 1pm. But Cal Fire warned residents that there still may be hot spots or embers and if they see anything to call 911.
On Friday, Governor Brown issued an official emergency declaration making the county eligible for assistance as a result of the fires in Alpine and elsewhere in San Diego County..

Cause of the fire is under investigation.
