Training Grenade Causes Scare at San Diego Polling Location

An office at Montgomery Field airport in Serra Mesa that was serving as a polling station was temporarily evacuated Tuesday after a suspicious device was found.

A janitor found the device at about 5:30pm, which turned out to be a training grenade, in a trash can according to police.

In addition to the office, the runway at Montgomery was shut down for a period of time until the all clear was given about 6:45pm.

Voters who appeared at the polling station to vote were redirected to a different location to cast their votes.

No word on the source of the training grenade or why it was in the office trash can.
