Why What Lesley Stahl Said President Trump Said Matters

What longtime award winning 60 Minutes journalist Lesley Stahl said about what President Trump said to her in 2016 about the news media is stirring up lots of “I told you so’s” on social media.

And both sides in this debate are saying the same thing “I told you so” but in different ways.

In a recent appearance to talk about her experience in journalism, Lesley Stahl told her audience about her interview with Donald Trump shortly after he won the election in 2016.  And before the camera started recording the interview, she said that he said that when she asked him why he always attacked the press, the President said “I do it to discredit you all and demean you all, so when you write negative stories about me no one will believe you”.

Social media exploded with reaction.  And as you would expect, lots of journalists, many of whom who were saying “I told you so”, and that it is pretty much what they concluded long ago.  But it was not something maybe that they would have expected him to actually say the way he said it.  And some wondered why Lesley Stahl didn’t tell this story a long time ago which may have helped White House reporters tell their story.

Among non-journalists, there have been reactions from both Trump haters and Trump lovers. His haters saying “I told you so”…I told you he’s mean and paranoid and doesn’t believe in a free press.

But Trump lovers also said “I told you so”…saying I told you that the press hates him and is out to get him and that you can’t believe people in the mainstream media like a Lesley Stahl.

And all of this may make you wonder, what the President thinks about all of this.
